You've come to the right place.
Welcome! You’ve come to the right place if you feel stuck and unhappy in your life. Seeing me and getting a chance to talk about whatever is on your mind will change things for the better.
Claudia Apfelbaum, MSS, LCSW
I grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, the first child of Refugee parents. Both of my parents had survived the Holocaust and come to America. The trauma of their experiences was a theme in my life. Fortunately, they were vibrant souls and shared a spirit of adventure. This led to my father getting a job with US AID in South India, where
we lived for two years
As a teenager, I read Summerhill and envisioned making the world a better place by helping people to have happier, freer lives.
In 2002, as I was about to turn 50, I felt it was “now or never” to do what I really wanted to do, which was to be a therapist. I felt a calling to this realm of work. I felt I had something to offer – a way of listening and tuning in that would help people to feel really heard.
I believe that feeling heard- being heard – makes a huge difference in peoples’ lives. And it is often a missing ingredient in a person’s life. Not being heard makes it much more difficult to know one’s own thoughts and feelings. Feeling heard is affirming and helps people to feel more confident and clear in their sense of direction.
I wanted to offer this kind of healing listening
I already had my master’s degree, so I entered a post master’s training program in family therapy. After I received my certificate, I hung out my shingle and began my work as a psychotherapist!
